I'm new to the GUI side of linux... have been running redhat webservers and finally switched my home computer over to linux, and up until now the only linux mail client that I have used is pine.
I just imported all of my OE 6 e-mails to the linux side of my hard drive (in preperation for rm -rf c:\) and I was wondering what the general consensus was on the best e-mail client to use and reasons why you like it... Aside from K-mail's ability to import binary .dbx files, since I already have that accomplished.
Thanks for your input!
-- NOTE -- I'd like to edit the poll and add Balsa, Sylpheed and Mutt to the list of choices, however only moderators can do that.
ALSO: I can't seem to import messages into evolution except one e-mail at a time... very frustrating!!!

My preference is Evolution anbd has been since version 0.9.x. Since around 1.0 it's been very stable and I like all the features it includes. I don't have any of the kdelibs or qt installed so I don't use KMail, but I used it a few years ago and liked it, but imho it doesn't compare to Evolution :)

I use Sylpheed - it's quick and simple.
Ultimately it depends on your needs. Evolution has a lot of 'fancy' features, but is also huge.
Probably the 'best' mail client is mutt - it is all singing and all dancing, and console based, but for GUI clients, each one offers something a little different.

Yeah, mutt is the best. because of the CLI It's saved my butt a few times. The other one I use is Netscape Mail.

Where is the best one of them all?
I love my trained dog as it performs exactly as I train it to, no matter what settings mailing lists use.
It works great in command line and x and will cooperate with most other gui clients as well.
mutt (http://www.mutt.org/) - mail client that sucks less than all the others.
Sylpheed all the way.
It was the only one i found that could read folders and subfolders properly on an Exchange server using IMAP.
Its very fast as well and doesnt need a billion other programs installed to run.

Try PAN for your newsgroups. It works as well or better than Forte Agent. It also handles Yenc.

I have to have spell checking, can't live without it.
Evolution is very nice, reminds me of Outlook, but no spell checking under debian.
