Has anyone used Xplanet? I am trying to run it on my RH 8.0 system and I'm having some configuration issues.

cheers,
Phil

Could you elaborate a bit?

I probably should. I just needed to experiment with Xplanet a bit more, as the options I was passing it didn't seem to be working. This page helped me figure that out:

http://flatplanet.neurofractal.org/

It has a web interface to Xplanet and shows you the command it uses. Very helpful.

Xplanet seems to be working OK now, it is another package that is giving me grief now actually. Hans Ecke wrote some extensions that automatically download a number of other files (clouds, satellites, etc) and generate maps. His script is generating size 0 files for some reason. Here is his page:

http://hans.ecke.ws/xplanet/

Also I'm having trouble configuring my desktop to reload the .jpg map file that gets created. It just struck me that I could create an html file to reload the graphic.

Thanks!

Wow, thanks for the links. That looks really sweet. I'm gonna download and try some of these scripts and tell you how things go here.

One thing: Is it possible that your windowmanager interferes with xplanet or one of those scripts and tries to draw the root window (nautilus in GNOME does that with if you allow it to draw the desktop).

I'll get back to you after some playing around with the scripts you linked.
