How do you get it? I have to mention that i have a french keyboard and i am running rh 6.1.

I have no idea what a French keyboard looks like compared to the stinkin' American one but...
It is often above the <ENTER> key. It is when you press <shift>+\ ... it looks like two small vertical lines.
But, the French kb is probably different but look for that if you can.

I can see the key but when i do shift +\ key it displays the backslash caracter: \
So how do you configure the keyboard?

I'm not sure as I am at work right now.

loadkeys us.kmap

will load the us keymaps on redhat i believe.. there are quite a few different mappings that come as default, so look for a french one.

oh, you have to be root to issue that command, and if you want to modify the keyboard mapping in X, you'll want to use a program called xmodmap.

i have french keyboard that I setup as french
canadian and to get te | i use shift+ the key on the left of the 1 key,or ~ as some call it.
`~#| are my normal us,us+shift,ca,ca+shift for that key.
