Hmmm. Haven't seen that one before. Please email me the pertinant info:

1.) System specs
2.) Video card
3.) Method used to install XFree86 4.0.1

I'll see if I can duplicate you rig, and then run through the HOWTO and see what I come up with.

I'd rather not just ignore them hehe

Celly 400,128 ram

TNT2 32mb (Diamond Viper v770)

X4 was installed right from mandrake 7.2's Installation, I did expert install as I usually do..and I know I do nothing wrong with the install. even mandrakes expert install is cake. then I follow you instruction from drivers section because I already have X4.0.1 installed from mandrakes initial install. And like I said in the last post , I had to just run make for the kernel driver not make SYSTEM=blahblah ..because the one you give didn't work for me. I also saw another mandrake 7.2 how to for the same thing and this guy says you only need to rename 2 files...other then what nvidia says. Right now I'm going off a fresh install and havn't installed the nvidia drivers again yet...waiting to see if maybe we can figure this out first...doing things like installing RPM's or compiling stuff, ldconfig will spit out it can't find all the libs you said to rename in /usr/X11R6/lib

I think the problem is when you renamed those files you broke the symbolic links and now when the dynamic linker runs it tries to follow links and complains since they are broken. Go to the directory and do ls -l and see if they are broken links.

Hmmmm. I'll dig into it and try it out. Mandrake 7.2's Expert install is a lot different than before. Lots of crap installed and/or missing, more services than I know what to do with, etc. In hindsight, I probably should have noted that in the HOWTO.

I'll let you know what I come up with! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
