I'm using Mandrake 8.0, and upgraded gdm using rpmdrake yesterday..

Now, when linux starts, I'm stuck with a CLI.. If I log in as root and type 'gdm' it tells me its already running..!

I'm not smart enough to figure out why this isn't working like it should.. I am going to pick around with the config files and see if I can work through it, but I highly doubt I'll fluke into a solution.

And another problem this caused is when I log in and type 'startx', instead of KDE starting up as usual, fmvw95 (is that right?) starts up. I know the solution to the second problem is pretty easy to fix, but I can't recall off hand what file actually tells startx what desktop to load.

If someone could help me get my computer back to the way it was I'd be so happy.. I'm sure it's as easy as editing a few files, but when there's tens of thousands of files residing on your hard drive, its hard to figure out what one you're looking for.

I thought upgrading software was supposed to make your computer *better* :) Not *broken*.
