ok... i made a simple adjustment to the /etc/rc.config file in SuSE to set the default window manager, then ran SuSEconfig, which it advises, to get the new stuff configured and all. i've done this before, and had no problems, but this time weird things have been happening.

i have to be logged in as root to edit rc.config and run SuSEconfig, but the last few times i've tried to do it, i get a whole load of errors basically saying 'permission denied' for everything the SuSEconfig program attempts to do. i was definitely in as root, and the permissions of SuSEconfig are all ok - i haven't changed anything to make it suddenly decide i'm not allowed in.

despite the weird output, the changes did take effect and i get WindowMaker as specified, but every time i boot up or shut down there are the same load of error messages mixed in with my usual bootup stuff. this has never happened before either. i'm really confused, any ideas??
