I'd like to burn mp3's onto "regular" audio CDs, but I'm stumped as to how to do that in Linux.
I have XCDRoast (nice, easy GUI) and it works fine for my data burns, but I don't see that it converts mp3s to cda's (that IS the CD audio format, right?).
I tried GToaster, but could NOT configure my ATAPI CD-RW in the preferences. I run a DVD/CD-R on /dev/cdrom and an ATAPI CD-RW on /dev/cdrom1.
If found another neat program called Xmp3Burn, but resolving dependencies for that install was like pulling nut hairs. I tried to resolve one, and got another. Try to resolve that one, got another. Crazy. Gave up after 4 hours.
My system recognizes my CD-RW just fine (when I do a cdrecord -scanbus, there it is as 2,0,0).
How do you burn your mp3's onto a audio CDs??

You aould use the diskwriter plugin of xmms to convert the mp3s to wav files and burn those. There are several scripts and programs available to automate this task. Check freshmeat (http://freshmeat.net/browse/845/?topic_id=845)

Get ready, I'm going to express my ignorance...
My DiscMan can read WAV files burned on a CD? I thought they were cda files. ??

No no, I think what he means, is that to burn audio cd's, your source files must be of .wav format. So in order to create a standard audio disc from your mp3's, you must first convert them to .wav's. Then Xcdroast will on-the-fly convert the wav --> audio.
There's something special about the wav format I guess.

Wav is uncompressed audio. I think some programs like gcombust can convert on the fly mp3.

Dang, man. That sig is just too much! I think that's probably one of the better one's I've seen. I'd send it to my Dad, but he wouldn't understand it...
1. He's never read nor seen the Lord of the Rings.
2. He's had it with Windoze and the jackboot tactics of B.G. He's getting a new Mac with the OS X (Linux Clone!) o/s.
Anyway, my XCDRoast did great (!) on the audio burn.
BUT, I do have a problem with XMMS. I don't know if you'd (or any one would) like to check out that post in the forum. Don't know what to do.
Good sig, man! Good sig! :-) Warms my heart...

I just downloaded the ERoaster rpm from SourceForge. Installed without a hitch and it is literally plug and play. Easy. The interface is a no-brainer. Converts mp3s on the fly and burns the audio CD. THANKS!
