My lightweight selection:

icewm is nice (toolbar is kinda window-ish)
blackbox is sweet for hacking. (Mine's got a black bg and kinda an olive green border...very cool IMO)
Afterstep is also nice.

The one I can't stand: TWM...I don't know why...just feels too icky.

Heavyweights:

KDE 2.1...that's it. I like the interface (default scheme with the System++ window decoration). Nicely layed out toolbar. I _LOVE_ the fuzzy clock (Weekend!). It's also quite quick except the bootup is dreadfully slow (compared to blackbox's milisecond boots :)) But I prefer it more than Gnome (which uses WAY too many sys resources IMO)

Just my buck ninety-five. (Go buy yourself a cheeseburger)

Part would be related to being the fastest.

Here's the current 'What's the best/fastest WM' over in Desktop Managers.

I switch between two. For pure Eye Candy and looks I use Enlightment, there are some kickbutt themes, plus the ripple and wave effect you can use makes for some serious cool backgrounds.

But for one with a little less overhead on teh desktop and easier use I use KDE.

I never could get themes to work in enlightenment...copy the *.etheme to ~/.enlightenment/Themes/ then middle click (hehe) and go down to themes then select the new one. What always happens to me is that the current theme goes away and the new one never loads (so I'm stuck with windows and no way to close them in a button form, nor can i get into menus)

XFce (http://www.xfce.org) currently is my WM of choice. It's lightweight, simple to setup(run xfce_setup), easy to add app. links, etc. all without having to edit any config files.

Enlightenment for me, with no "taskbar".

Basically, cause there are alot of pretty theme's for it. All eyecandy. Plus it comes with Eterm.

It's better on machines with a bit more memory. I just like enlighenment theme's more than any other.

:)
