Im getting the hang of linux and found out what I was doing wrong to install themes. Now Im trying to install the naria theme, http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=2743. It says to copy the .ktheme, kicker and kdisplay to the /.kde/ folders but when I do that, I get:

cp: cannot create regular file `/root/.kde/share/apps/kthememgr/Themes/naria-eriya.ktheme': No such file or directory

What am I doing wrong? instructions are simple enough, shouldnt I have that folder? Im on Mandrake 9.0. Help would be very much appreciated since I have been trying like 3 days now to install themes on gnome, kde etc.., the only one I got installed was mosfet liquid style.. with all the packages and different instructions for each and everyone, Im starting to wonder is it actually worth my time just to change the look of the desktop, people should really provide proper instructions when coding these darn things  .

You are trying to do this as root, aren't you? If that's because you want to install the theme for the root user. Don't. Don't use KDE as root, don't even use X as root. Period.

But the error message you get seems to be due to the fact that root doesn't have a .kde directory in his home dir. That's good ;)

Now for a regular user: Notice the tilde (~) in the install instructions. That's a shortcut for the user's home directory. So ~/.kde/blah means the directory/file /home/username/.kde/blah. So enter these commands as regular user and it should work fine.

3 days grrr  , well at least I learned pretty much. I figured out what I did wrong but screw kde, I decided to go with fluxbox since so many liked it on the poll hehe and is easier meaning as it works better. I got it working so Im a happy camper. On a side note I think this site is fantastic, one of a kind.
