I am trying to set up a mail server at my location, I have fixed IP and DSL connection. But my domain (URL) is being hosted somewhere else on a different server. Can I still setup the mailserver at my location. Do I need to set up the DNS?
Could someone please tell me what I need to do this.

Just have an MX record on your DNS server pointing to your mail server IP.

Could you please explain more, what is MX record, and where I should put it. Is there an example that you can provide me with.
