First...Gentoo is cool!! The install took a while, but fun!
Anyway, got it running and want to install a Window manager.
Tried "emerge Fluxbox" and it took, but how do I start it?? X doesn't seemed to be installed.
Do i need to "emerge X11" or something?
The machine I'm running is pretty old and KDE would be too slow.
Any hints would be great!

This should answer your questions. I won't repeat it all here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/desktop.html
If X is installed, then create a ~/.xinitrc file and just put the words exec fluxbox in it :)

I've already taken a look at that tutorial and it's instructions for installing KDE, not just X or fluxbox. The emerge KDE installs X along with KDE, which I don't want. For instance, xf86config isn't installed or startx after emerging Fluxbox. Darn....i'm confused lol
i'll give the /xinitrc file a try.
Thx Cheeky
i apologize for my lack of knowledge on the whole X-windows/windows managers subject....guess thats why I'm trying Gentoo because I having learned much installing RH and Mandrake.

OK, I had a look at gentoo's site here:
http://www.gentoo.org/packages/x11-base/xfree.html
try emerging x11-base/xfree

i suggest that you email the gentoo maintainers of fluxbox too because XFree86 should be a depend of fluxbox. While it is true that it installs without x you certainly need x to use it :p

Also make sure that you are running the xfs server before running fluxbox...
