Try this Installing RPM Packages (http://home.ubalt.edu/abento/linux/terminal/rpm.html) link.

Any documentation from where you downloaded the i810 rpm or included in the rpm package?

rpm -ql packagename (without the version and extension)

will list the contents (files/directories) of the rpm package.

Perhaps you need to reconfigure X and this time select the i810 driver or just manually edit /etc/X11/XF86Config (-4) and modify the driver yourself.

Best to check the documentation.

i'm thinking i have to chage the driver. i don't know what the driver is called. the intel website has a pdf file that tells how to install it. i don't have adobe acrobat reader, and i don't want it.
