Is there any distros out with the new kernel?
I've never compiled my own kernel and being that i see some people here (with more experience than I) with problems, I figure it would be easier to just install a fresh new linux distro.
I looked at RH Fisher beta but is there any public releases out there?

SuSE 7.1 ships REAL soon...check out SuSE (http://www.suse.com/). It's the european equivalent of Red Hat, and from what I hear it's quite good.
I tried compiling my own kernel and it's not a lot of fun...there was A LOT of red on that startup screen...and configuring the kernel tends to take a very long time.

Compiling a kernel isn't very difficult at all, I believe there is a NHF here that walks you through the process.

Not necessarily true, it only takes me about 4 or 5 minutes.

5 minutes to configure and compile? Damn...that's fast.

The only other distro I can think of that has kernel 2.4 is Red Hat 7.1 beta 1. It definitely isn't ready for production work, yet. I downloaded it and installed it on a sencond PC and it seems to be running pretty well. There are quite a few changes from 7.0.
