Hihi homiez.......

I'm nearly there with Quake3, but there's still a slight problem. So far i've:

1) downloaded and installed the linux q3a point release
2) copied all the pak files from my windows 98 cd (spit on windows!)
3) re-installed the drivers for my graphics card.

Only thing is, when i start quake3 it appears in a small window on my Gnome desktop (about 1/4 size of the screen) and the rest of the screen flickers and generally looks like it's not very happy. Any ideas on what to do, or what the problem is? I'm on Redhat 7.1, with a nVidia Geforce2 64M DDR.

Thanks to my people!!

A newbie myself, but try playing it in a resolution that matches your desktop (eg. 800x600 or 1024x768), you'll find that in the system-->graphics menu, I think

eh, redhat 8 probably just puts the only resolution it thinks best for your video card to use at in the XF86Config file,

get into root, open up that file vi /etc/XF86Config

search for resolutions, you should probably see something like DIsplay "24" and then "1280x1024" or "1024x768" etc just add more to those lines "640x480" "800x600"

the reason you have the extra space is because your linux doesnt have the ability to switch to a different resolution because the XF86config file only sees the one supplied by redhat.

i wish they would just include them all up to the highest it thinks your video card and monitor can support but oh well
