I got two old computers, and because of a labrynth of interlocking tech snafus, some of which may be caused by my inexperience, I can go online with one with Linux and not with the other. I don't think the other one is a winmodem, but I may be wrong. The one that will go online has a tiny RAM and Tiny harddrive,

so this is a roundabout way of saying that I want to network two computers, both running Mandrake 8.2. For hardware, I have a parallel to parallel cable from my not so long ago Win98 days I was hoping to use, since I have approximately 0 dollars to spend on hardware these days.

I know nothing about networking.

I'm going directly from here to google to see what I can find, but does anybody have any advice about what I should do or what I should use or where I should look for info?:confused:

Google is certainly a good place to look.

I went there myself looking for something on PPP over a parallel port. The results weren't promising as indicated by this link:

I didn't come up with anything on Sourceforge or Freshmeat either.

Maybe you had better luck.
