I have sound. My cd rom appears not to be mounted yet gnome cd player will read it and play it without sound. All the levels are up, as well. What is up?

have u checked the cdrom cable.. i dunno what its called ... u know the small cable that connects it to the sound card. usually thats where i fail to remember...

Just to let you know that audio cd's are not mountable since they do not contain a actual filesystem.
Do as buttercrunch suggested as Linux requires you have a audio cable between the cdrom and soundcard to be able to listen to audio cd's.
