When I installed Slackware, I had the ethernet card that came with my computer, and all was dandy. Then, some electrical storm destroied my original card so I had to go out and buy a new one. For a while, I didn't use linux much, but lately I've wanted to use it some more. Everything was good, until I wanted to install WINE; an operation I had to download the software to complete. So, I fired up my browser and tried to go to wine's site. But to no avail. I used netconfig to redo my networking settings, hoping that it would find my card and set up everything. However, it did not work. So, if you guys could give me any advice, that would be great! =)

The standard questions. :)

What ethernet card is it?

Do you know what module/driver it uses?

Do you have PnP OS disabled in the bios?

Does 'lsmod' (list loaded modules) show the ethernet card module as being loaded?

Does 'ifconfig' show both 'lo' and 'eth0'

Are you using static or dhcp?
