Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Looking to play a MS avi file VRay 02-11-2001, 02:51 PM Is there an emulator for linux to play a Microsoft avi file? bdg1983 02-11-2001, 03:22 PM You don't need an emulator, there are avi players for linux. Try doing a search for "avifile" on Freshmeat.net Craig McPherson 02-11-2001, 10:09 PM Well, it depends on the codec. A lot of AVI files you run into these days are encoded with proprietary codecs, and can't be played on any of the Linux AVI players out there. So cross your fingers... VRay 02-11-2001, 10:23 PM Thx guys, I'll give it a try. pin 02-11-2001, 10:50 PM http://divx.euro.ru/ - URL for aviplay aviplay works decently. The only alternative I have found is XMPS and that didn't work for me. ansivirus 02-11-2001, 11:04 PM yeah aviplay works wonders haven't found an avi it won't play.. it also plays ASF format too.. :) -ansivirus saturn_vk 06-24-2001, 12:05 AM there is one thing wrong with avifile it cannot fast forward. it always hangs bdg1983 06-24-2001, 12:53 AM Give mplayer (http://mplayer.sourceforge.net/) a try. It does mpeg, many flavors of avi/asf (with good seek support), and DVDs (though it has no ifo parsing right now, so no title/chapter or subtitle support). It's my favorite player, and it's under active development right now (ie, it's very well supported & maintained, and there should be cool new features coming soon too). justlinux.com
