Edit: oops! wrong channel, sorry guys! I thought this was the general questions board...don't answer this one

OK, I've already posted about some NTFS and FAT 32 issues, and I've come to this conclusion. This is my first try at a dual boot system, cause I'm tired of Windows crashes and the BGD (Bill Gates Dependency). Does this look about right?

(Windows XP for gaming, CD audio and mp3's, and MS word; Linux for mp3's, other types of media [CD audio], productivity [programming, blah blah blah], just for fun!)

I'll use FDisk to partition my WD 80 GB

15GB (NTFS) for windows xp, system files, windows programs (e.g. microsoft office, winamp?, IE?, Norton AV and Ghost, and other files essential to OS functionality and stability, etc.)

30 GB (FAT32) for lots of mp3's, games, and other multimedia (I plan to share this with Win XP and Linux)

30 GB (FAT32??) for Linux, probably Mandrake 9.0, as I plan to learn and make a switch. However, I need programming tools such as a compiler for C, C++, Java, etc. for my Comp Sci courses

5 GB (FAT32??) left over for a different OS, or just in case

If Linux has it's own file system, can I have FDisk partition just the first two partitions and just add breaks in the rest of the HD (15GB NTFS, 30GB FAT32, 30GB unformatted, 5GB unformatted)?
Thanks for all the help guys. I've done a lot of searching and browsing (NHF, etc.), but this seems to be the best place to go for advice!

What I do is prepare all my partitions by cfdisk. Then let those installers do all the formatting for me, windows first then linux.

Hope this helps...
