Considering my hardware config in my sig. what is wrong! I want a very simple to use distribution of Linux that I can use to get my feet wet. I have already tried Corel version 2, SuSE 6.2, Phat 3.3, and Redmond Beta2. I cannot get it to install!!! I get some knid of error message. I am almost wondering if something I have in my system doesn't like the kernels. Please help me out as to which distribution I should use, CONVERT ME!

If all these distros fail to install it's certainly a hardware problem. How do you feel about running your processor @ 600MHz and install again...

Good idea. Downclock everything and try again. Once everything works o/c again.
I'd go for SuSE 7.0 (ROOLZ!) I still use 6.4 'cuz I got older h/w. SuSE=Easy to use as a beginner.
And as U become more proficient U can dig deep and find out how everything works and configure your own stuff really well.

Oh yeah I already did set the chip back to 600MHz! This unfortuntely didn't solve the problem! In the corel version my screen goes all fuzzy during the installation process and I can't continue. This makes me want to think that there is a problem with my video but I thought that NVidia was supported under Linux!
Any other comments about which distribution I should use? I think I am going to go out and buy something, I'm sick of these downloaded versions not working!!!
Thanks!
Right now 1 for SuSE 7

Well, what error messages do you get when your install fails? I mean, you can always use debian, but I don't know what to tell you unless I know what is going wrong with the installer. It might be a problem with the hardware itself.

Do you have your hard drive connected to the ata100 controller?
Linux cannot see drives connected to these controllers unless parameters are given at boot or the kernel has been compiled to support these controllers.

That's a good thought but the drive I plan on installing to is on the VIA controller so this shouldn't be my problem. My windows drive is on the promise controller!!!

First of all, downloaded versions work just as well as boxed versions unless something got screwed up on your end.
As for Corel... take one look at their "Installation Help" BBS and you will hundreds and hundreds of people who had the same "frozen fuzzy screen" as you did. It's a Corel thing.
Corel has only a graphical install -- no text-based alternative -- so if your card isn't recognized for whatever reason it'll poop out on ya.
As mentioned above, if you HD is connected to the ata100 controller, pull it from there at connect it directly to the board, do the install, then recompile the kernel to accomodate the ata100.
That's a whole other topic. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
