Hello:

I've upgraded to Woody from storm hail 2.06. I have kde, helix gnome and enlightenment (default). I boot up to the console and when I startx I get E without a hitch but I can't start gnome or kde. At one time I was able to type: startx startkde or gnome-session and it would work. Know when I do that I get an error about xterm. Anybody have any idea? I haven't tried to setup an .xinitrc with startkde or gnome-session in it so this may just be a waste of time but I want to see what the Debian guys think.

You may need to update your Gnome / KDE .deb files. It doesn't work quite the same: it seems the config files have been altered a little. I hope that helps.

Problem is that I do have the latest helix gnome and kde(kde 2.1beta from unstable). I'll have to try the .xinitrc and see if I can get that to make it work. I'll post tomorrow after I give it a shot.

If I remember right, storm uses xfree86-3.x so you would be upgrading to x4.0.2 with woody. Makes me want to ask if the problem is not with your .xinitrc but with your /etc/X11/XF86Config file?

How so Jeff? I am still running 3.3.6 as far as I can tell. But now that you mention it, it did have to update xserver-common to get 0.16.5 E. So, do you happen to know the name of the package to upgrade to 4.0.2? I am running woody but I've got many sid packages running. Everything runs pretty good, lpd seems a little squirly but that's ok since I don't print much at all.
