I think i've installed the donkey fine.. and then i tried to install a gui for it. but when i run the gui's ./configure thing, it does all this stuff, and then spits out this error:

..
checking for GNET - version >= 1.1.3... no
*** The gnet-config script installed by GNet could not be found
*** If GNet was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GNET_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gnet-config.
configure: error: Cannot find GNet: Is gnet-config in path?
..

so i went and tried to reinstall GNET, and it seemed to install okay. but i still get the same error when runing the gui's configure.

i tried setting the path manually..

but i still got the same error with the edonkey gui configure.

anyone used these things?

gui found here:
http://ed2k-gtk-gui.sourceforge.net

oh, i'm runing mandrake 9

Download mldonkey. It ran no problems for me. It has a web based (localhost loopback) gui and connects to the same network. Granted, it's not as pretty.

But the number one reason to use it over edonkey.... It's free software.

Well I've never tried the gui you are talking about but I've used both the java gui and the c gui from the official site. The c gui doesn't even require compiling. and of course the java one doesn't, but it does require a working jre.

I just found a different on i think... one that was pre compiled..

http://users.aber.ac.uk/tpm01/guihome.html#GUI

linux_gui_alpha_unstable

it worked first time!

a little bit wierd having to hook it into the core edonkey program, .. but it works none the less.

I might give the other ones you've mentioned a go, as id like to try a few different guis.

thanks

Have you checked config.log? RH8.0 installed glib-2.0, I think Mandrake does too. So when you ran configure, did you enable glib2.0? (its default is glib1.2)

DO NOT USE GNET rpm! Download the source code. compile and install it.

okay, i've had some problems with the "new donkey binary" i found.. it's all a bit wierd.. so i'm gonna try this otherway as czgu suggested.. get gnet installed from a source, rather than a rpm.

then i'll try to do the donkey again.
