I have run an Apache web server and Camarades.com Webcam off a windows machine. I hate it. I want to run linux on my server but I really want to be able to stick with Camarades for my web cam. Does anybody know if there is software for Linux that will allow me to do this or am I stuck with the TrueTech WebCam software for windoze?

If you want to use your webcam in Linux the first question you need answered is whether or not the camera itself will work in Linux.

I don't really see the allure in camarades.com, it seems pretty slow to me and a whopping $9.95usd a month. *shrug*

If your camera works in Linux there's lots of Linux webcam software out there, lots more then there is for windows. I recently bought a digital camera which has an ntsc-out on it so I decided to also hook it up so I could use it as a webcam, and only my windows box has a video card with ntsc-in on it so I had to find some decent windows software which turned out to be a pain.

Tons of Linux webcam software at freshmeat.net or sourceforge.net, just do a search for "webcam"

Well I am using a composite camera and I have a BT848 based Tuner card. So I am sure I can get that tuner card to work in Linux. I am not sure why you think Camarades.com costs $$$ because it is totally Free. I use them because I can get a large number of hits from people browsing their network. And it is fast, as fast as your cam server can go. f only there was a way to run the windoze prog in linux. :-/
