i have just recently completed the installation of my linux and made a few settings changes to the firewall, ftp, mail, and http services. now, when i boot up and log onto the console, i get a message that i have received new mail. can i read that mail right from the console, or do i have to use the gui interface and how would i do it either way?

thanx in advance for any and all help.

Yes, you can read it from there using the command: mail. Check out the manpage for mail by entering: man mail at the command prompt. But, the mail program can be scary if your not used to it. See if you have pine or mutt installed, they are both console mail readers that are at least a little more user friendly.
