hi there, i 've got a major problem installing red hat 6.0.
I've got a compaq pressario 5166., and i just finished installing a second hd.
My plan was to run windows on the first hd(10gb) and linux on the second(4.2gb).
With Partition Magic i created 2 logical partitions on the second disk.
When i try to install my red hat, i get the following:
loading initrd.img
loading vmlinuz
uncompressing Linux

crc error
system halted

And it really is "system halted". The only thing left to do is to turn the machine off.

ps. I've also "BootMagic" running, so i would be able to choose wich os i want to work with.
Please anybody, help this poor newbie get his linux running.... Thanks

the Red Hat Knowledge Base (http://redhat.com/support/search.html) lists a
crc error (http://www.redhat.com/support/alex/168.html) yours might be different as your hardware is kinda old, but i would read that first.

the red hat sight is pretty good if you search through it, maybe it will have some more info, good luck!

I'm sure what was meant was try something other than RedHat6.0.
Perhaps RedHat6.2 or Mandrake7.1 or 7.2 or Suse or Debian or Slackware or...or...or... you get it now, don't you?

(Debian and lovin' it!... Oh, and NetBSD, too!)

Red Hat 6 is OLD!!! Go out and pick up a copy of Slackware 7.1

Or for ease of use, get Mandrake 7.2

or get the distro that God uses.

OK. CRC error usually means something wrong with the physical disk. What are you trying to boot the installation off? CD? Disk? Another distribution would fix the problem however, if a CRC error is given, then it sounds more like a storage media problem to me than the distribution itself.
