Okay I used the sneaky trick of putting the domain names of ad sites in my hosts file with the 127.0.0.1 IP addresss (I read that somewhere, maybe here?) now I have a small prolbem.

This only happens on sites that use doubleclick.net ads. Like dilbert.com and straightdope.com
The entry in my /etc/hosts file reads 127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net
When I visit those sites with doubleclick ads I get a server not found error. None of the other ones do this only doubleclick. Anybody know why?

This is an AWESOME trick!!!! I have also listed some counters that load slowly in the hosts file.

Geez I can't type today :)

I don't know why it happens with doubleclick but I tried doing that once and had quite a few problems with it. The only way it works nicely is if it's either built into the browser or you're using a proxy to remove the ads.
