APT sources.list

I am trying to use APT and every package I try to install, it says package not found. I am guessing that it has something to do with sources.list. If someone could explain how APT works, what the sources.list is and what I need to do to get it running I would really appreciate it.

My Distro is RH 8.0

hi, i was trawling through the forums on here looking on info on howto do something and stumbled on a thread that mentioned this link to OSnews.com (http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=1890) it takes you through installing apt and has some other decent info. Hope it is of some use to you as it was to me. I found that it works a treat :D

Thanks alot. That made all the difference int he world. Now, I some clue as to how APT works. There's no good stuff out there to explain it.
