I am a newbie.I was peeking into linux.I upgraded my linux RH 7 to RH 7.1. After that, I chose kde as my WM.After that It has asked me to if I would like to convert from previous version to the newversion as there are old version kde files.I said yes.The screen got hung for about 15 min. After that I rebooted and now, it won't boot at all. It's asking me to repair the system by logging as root.Ofcourse,I do have root passwd. I have an access to service engineer also. But before, I want to lay my hands where I went wrong.MOre over, there are some .kde*(*=etc) files in root /. When tried to remove them, it said they are write protected.I tried to change permissions (chmod=777).But it did not work.

Can somebody tell what went wrong technically? of course I know some thing went wrong terribly when rebooted it. I have source CDs also with me.But i don't have boot floppy.WO using CD s can i bring entire things back.

I would be happy if you could either answer to the forum or my pid 'yasasvi@indiatimes.com'

Thanks in advance

Hi, :D

Thanx to penguin community.I was reading through the docs available on this site. Suddenly I realized what I am supposed to do.I did it and I got it.Hell lot of thanx to penguin.I had used all windows versions except windows XP(ee). The present box I'm having runs on win2k prof and RHL 7.1.I shifted to penguin land recently. Now, I understood the philosophy of linux. So, I totally shifted my work area to linux thought it's difficult for me as I am a newbie.Thanx for the community's effort to make penguin run and Micro$oft run for its money.

I do have a little problem still. My lilo (graphical) shows hda1 as a boot option although i can't boot into it.I checked the lilo.conf.But it won't point any thing in it.I configured it using kde's graphical configurator.Bye the way, it's loading in init level 5.Is there any problem? If there is any problem, How can i over come it?

I hope either somebody will answer or I will go through the docs and Find my answer :p

Thank you guys,

suresh
