None. You don't need one, if your hard drive is partitioned correctly.

I would think that 20 meg would suffice. That is if you really need one.

With the newer versions of Lilo being included in all the latest distros, a /boot partition is not really necessary to get around the 1024 cylinder limitation.

Grub never had that problem.

If you care to post your planned distro and how you would like to partition your hd, we could advise what might be best.

Problem:
I have a Promise ata/100 cont. card with two hds on it. Linux only sees them if i specify the addresses in hex for the install program (RH 7.0). Then after the install is finished, lilo gets stuck at LI and locks up the box.

The only way I could get it to work was if I used a boot floppy and entered the hex addresses every single time, then I could get it up and running but what a PITA.

I tried everything I could think of. And I am not exactly new to linux. I have been using it for about five years now, but not on my current box because of this problem. It has been several months since I have tried installing it but recently in class, we have been discussing linux and networking so I figured I would go ahead and try reinstalling it on my main box at home with a boot partition I thought might do the trick. Am I crazy? Sorry for such a long winded post.

You need to add for example, "append ide2=0x1400,0x10f6 ide3=0x10f8,0x10f2" to /etc/lilo.conf and then rerun /sbin/lilo.
