I presently have Mandrake 8.2 dual booted with WindowsXP ( couple of programs that I still need to use in Windoze. I downloaded Mandrake 9.0 and have burned the ISO's to CDR's and am ready to install. Question: Do I install right on top of Mandrake 8.2? In the past I used Partition Magic to format that drive with ext2. What is the correct way to install Mandrake 9,0??
Thanks,
Bob

Save your critical files, such as what is in your /home directory. Then do a fresh install in "Expert" mode. Mandrake has all the tools to set up your partitions in any desired size, and format them in any desired filesystem.

You will want to format the partitions, as well, even if you don't change filesystems (this will be an option during the install). Otherwise you'll end up with old versions of some files (binaries, libraries, etc.) laying around, which can easily cause problems.

Or, you can have them both on your computer at the same time -- use Partition Magic or whatever to create another partition, and install Mandrake 9 to that new partition instead of overwriting 8.2. That's what I do, because that way I'm sure I don't erase anything I might need later. Just an idea.
