host and domain names????

When I set up my network, it asks for host and domain names. At the expense of sounding stupid, Just what exactly are the HOST and DOMAIN names.

I am trying to get RH6.2 to install via network. I am unsure of what to answer when the above are asked.

DOMAIN __________
HOST __________
2nd DNS__________
3rd DNS__________

I type a DOMAIN, let's say "Ford", then the HOST field pops up ".Ford"

AGAIN, just exacty are "HOST" and "DOMAIN"

I was unsure what to enter in the KPPP field asking for DOMIAN also!

I have limited knowledge of Linux in general but as far as I know, the internet was born on Unix machines which is where the internet's Domain name "stuff" comes from. If the computer(s) are on a LAN already then you need to know the specific Domain name etc. as well as IP address. If you are setting it up as a home-based network however (like what I have) then you can specify whatever you like as the domain and hostname. The domain name on each computer within your LAN should have the same domain name but different hostnames (and IP addresses of course). For example:

Computer 1:
Domain: whatever.com (I chose something like this to match internet type domain names)
Hostname: computer1
Computer 2:
Domain: whatever.com
Hostname: computer2

This would make computer 1 be refered to as "computer1.whatever.com" etc.

NOTE: As far as I know the information I supply is correct (and the same as my configuration). Please don't blame me if it isn't correct in any way. In any case, it works on my system like this so, it will work (I just don't know for sure if it is the "proper" thing to do)
