Hey all....

My first post asking a question, and I just want to say how happy I am I found this site.

I have install Redhat 8 on a vmware virtual machine, the host being windows xp.

1. Looking for suggestions on the software itself to run an FTP server with. Security and configurability are a must, a GUI interface is a big plus.

2. A user guide (newbie-fied) to help installing it, step by step. If there's a way to set it up via a GUI. I'd like to be able to monitor who is online, via a gui (if possible) as it would make my life much easier.

I've done some reading, and I have to say this Linux stuff is a bit daunting. I've used Windows for years (doesn't say much once you touch this stuff!), and I'm not a computer moron. I have no problem with working hard to figure out an answer, I just could use a push in the right direction.

I'm hearing that Proftpd is the way to go, so perhaps we'll start there?

Any and all help would be ever so greatly appreciated. FYI I have no problem with someone connecting remotely to assist, if anyone if nice enough to offer that to me.

Thanks again, guys. Have a good one.

I've never used Proftpd myself though I hear it's the most recommended ftp server for Linux.

You should be able to find loads of documentation to help with the installation and configuration.

Lots of Linux resources out there...

Thanks for the reply. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I was kinda wondering... WHERE? Yes, I agree, I'm sure the docs are out there, but I am having a bit of trouble finding them. The search continues, but I'm just hoping some of you guys can give me a pointer in the right direction. Thanks again!
