I wanna run gkrellm in KDE so that it appears on every desktop, is always on top, and doesn't show up in the task bar.....
Does anyone know how to do this? I know the first two, but I can't figure out how to keep it from showing up in the task bar. Is it at all possible?
Thanks for your time...

Strange this is, I just finished visiting the Gkrellm website to find the same thing for KDE2.
kstart --window gkrellm --alldesktops --ontop --skiptaskbar /usr/bin/gkrellm
Verify the path is correct as mine is different from what the example says. I built a rpm from the source tar.gz and that could have possibly changed it.
I just noticed that you didn't mention what version of KDE you are using. The faq's at www.gkrellm.net (http://www.gkrellm.net) will tell you for KDE1. I had it myself, but just deleted the command when I updated it for KDE2. I thought the commands for KDE1 would also work for KDE2, but Gkrellm didn't startup at all.

Im using KDE 2.1.1 and it didnt do anything for me. It's still down in the taskbar. Where did you find that command? I'd like to browse that site and see if I can find out something. Ive been wanting to get it off the taskbar as well.
Same here, I looked into it and the problem is with KDE, an extensive web search will eventually (sic) lead you to the KDeveloper's message board, and the '--skiptaskbar' option is a flub in the code -- to be fixed down the road. IE, therefor and ergo - ain't crap we can do about it for now, just hope theu fix it soon, eh?

I hadn't had a chance to test it before I posted what I had found at www.gkrellm.net (http://www.gkrellm.net) in the faq's. Sorry no refund. ;)
Oh well, at least the rest works for now.

According to their website, KDE2.2 now works with the --skiptaskbar switch!

Too bad you're not running GNOME, there's a plugin that does all of those things.

Thanks eXtremist. Upgrading to KDE2.2 is on my long long todo list. Guess I'll have to move it up a notch.

Yes, KDE2.2 does fix it.
What a difference going from KDE2.1 to KDE2.2. They've been busy at KDE.
