I have a GeForce 4 MX440, and I can't run the 3.3.6 version of XFree, only 4.2.1. Is there a fix for this, I'm running Mandrake 9.0? Whenever I try to test the config with 3.3.6 it says SVGA not compatible with any color and or resolution I set it at. Help please, I wanna play some Unreal 2K3!!! =)

Disclaimer: I am not a Mandrake user, and don't know if Mdk has any X issues.
Why don't you want to use XFree 4.2.x? I'm not sure if the 3.x series supports DRI/DRM or nVidia acceleration.

you will want to use xfree86 4.x.x. 3.3.6 will not support your card.

Do you think that RH 8.0 would support my GeForce 4 MX440 and allow me to use 3D acceleration, that's all I want is to do that to play Unreal and Quake! =/

I think you'll need to install the nvidia drivers to get 3D acceleration. At least in RH 7.3 you need to (I haven't got time to install RH 8.0 yet)

OK. For 3D support, you need to not be running XFree86 3.3.6. It has to be at least version 4.0.1 (I think -- you might have to have version 4.0.3 or higher -- in any case, 4.2.1 is what you want, since it has all the recent security bugfixes).
Once 4.2.1 is installed, then start on getting the nVidia drivers installed. But don't bother with the nVidia drivers if you're running XFree86 3.3.6, because it's guaranteed not to work with that version of X.
Yes, even in RedHat 8, you need to install the nVidia drivers. No distro comes packaged with them out of the box, because they're closed-source.
