How do I make the background in terminal windows transparent. I've gone to the settings and checked transparent but it never does it and transparent is always unchecked when I come back. How is it done.

Depends on what terminal you are using. It's pretty easy to do in Eterm, aterm, and rxvt just use man to figure out the syntax for a console. If you are trying it with konsole in an environment other than KDE it won't work because it looks for the KDE background. p.s. - I believe the app listed as terminal in mandrake 8.0 is actually konsole. I recommend Eterm and aterm, they rock. WindowMaker

The Gnome terminal can do it. Just go the settings dialog and select "transparent" in the background tab.
