Hey everyone:

I'm trying to install slack 8, and I need a boot disk since the bios does not support booting from the cd. So anyways, when I put in the disk (bare.i) I get stopped with the error message:

Warning: unable to open an initial console.
Kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

so what should I do, I have remade the disk, and have no ideal what kind of option to pass to the kernel. Anyone have this prob before?

Possibly stupid/redundant questions:

1. You're using rawrite to make the boot disks?

2. Is this a new HD, or previously used...in which case, have you defragged it?

1. I used dd the first time and rawrite the second.

2. It was used previously on a redhat install, I haven't defragged it because I was unaware of such a thing in linux. How would this be the problem anyways?? thanks, hopefully someone has seen this and fixed it though

Hm... I've not tried the 2.2.19 Kernel for the Åtta, but with the 2.4.5 Kernel, I've had no problems.

Try using that in stead - you'll find it under bootdsk144/2.4.5/ on the cd.

The rootdisk is the same (color.gz)
