The sixth field of a "ls -l" result
is the date the file was last updated,
but it only shows month/day, no year.
How comes?

in the field that shows the time, if the file is overr a year old, it shows the year instead:

-rwxrwxrwx 1 user group 28672 Apr 23 1999 somethingmadeaoveryearago
