directory permissions

I can finally see my linux box from my 98 machine but when I click on the machine icon in the network neighborhood window, it tells me "\\Localhost is not accessible. No permission to access resource." Is this a permission problem on my directories? How do I tell what default directory samba will direct my windows machine to? I created /home/public, /home/samba, and /home/smbuser all owned by smbuser:smb. Any idea where I can start troubleshooting?
