Ok, I am convinced I want a firewall, even though I am only on a dial up. Now, I have two computers, my Laptop which runs Slackware and my Mom's desktop which runs Win95. My idea is to have a have a seperate box on it's on with the firewall and such on it. The box would also have to do all the dialing, remotly. Can it be done? The firewall would be some sort of *nix, probably slack or bsd maybe Solaris if I can find a cheap Sparc.

Yep can be done easily, You add the box then set up the netwaork so it uses this box as a gateway to the outside world.
Check out these How-tos.

IP-Masq (http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO.html)
IPchains (firewall) (http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/other-formats/html_single/IPCHAINS-HOWTO.html)

These should take care of the gateway/Firewall.

You can either set up ppp or diald to handle the automatic dialing.
