Hi,
I hope someone can enlighten me here....Konqueror Browser frequently crashes giving an error relating to a "Signal 11 (SIGSEGV)".
It claims that it is a bug.
Anyone else seen this? It also happens occasionaly using the file manager. I also get intermittant problems with the other supplied browsers; Opera and Mozill.....they just 'vanish', droppng me back to the desktop without any error message.
I'm using Mandrake 8.2, though I did get similar problems when I tried a copy of Suse 8.0.
This is driving me nuts....the only browser that works properly is that blasted 'other' one from that company in Redmond, under their own O/S!!!!
My system:
Athlon 1100
chaintech 7AJA (VIA Chipset) motherboard
768mb PC133 SDRAM
Asus Geforce 3
Western Digital Hard Drives.......

Cheers :)

When I read the title of your post I thought the proper response would be "Yeah, that happens. Konqueror is pretty buggy" (my opinion). But the fact that you experince the same difficulties with different distros and different browsers might indicate a hardware problem. Yeah, I know what you think... "But Windows is running OK". That doesn't mean your hardware is 100% OK, though.

You might want to read this (http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11/).

Maybe try to use one of your memory modules at a time and see if the problem persists. This way you might be able to identify a flawy module.

Thanks for the quick reply :) I had wondered about memory, and will try swapping around a few sticks to see what happens.
I left my system running the memory tester section provided on the Suse Install CD today, whillst out at work. After 10 hours it still hadn't finished, but did pick up a number of errors! Of course, there's no way of knowing which bloody stick the problems are in, or maybe which ONES
But thanks, you've helped confirm something I had considered. I wasn't prepared to believe that Konqueror could be THAT unstable after all this time....
Cheers!

Just a follow-up here....thanks again Demian, you did indeed hit the nail on the head :)
I replaced all 768 mb of Ram, and after wrestling with the Bios to accept the new stuff (it needed the Parity checking switching on....otherwise it crashed violently!!), I have had no problems in either Windows, or Mandrake :D
Konqueror will crash with that Signal 11 error still at just one website; www.itv-f1.com , but appart from that, everything else, file manager, Opera etc, are rock solid. I ran that Suse Memory test routine again overnight on the new Ram, and had no errors this time. That seems to have fixed the problem:)
Cheers...:) :)
