Whenever I try to connect to my redhat 6.2 server either via telnet, ssh, or ftp I experience a long delay before I'm prompted for username and password.

ie: in windows cuteftp stalls at " Socket connected. Waiting for welcome message... "
for a long time and then eventually asks for a password and will log on. What wrong with it? Did I disable the wrong service or something?
Thanks!

Usually happens to tell you the truth. I don't know of any system I have ever used that the Telnet or ssh didnt take forever. =]

The reason it takes so long is that it is looking for reverse dns and forward dns. Try editing your DNS and making sure its valid reverse and it will go MUCH faster.

Hmmmm how would I go about doing that mindwarp? I'm assuming this is a setting for logging somewhere right?
Thanks again!

Well its bad practice, but in inetd.conf change /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd
/usr/sbin/in.telnetd in.telnetd
