Or do I have to apply a PCMCIA patch to it?

Incidentally do the 2.3.x series have it?

In case you're wonderin'...I'm narrowing down the kernel version where my old laptop chokes on. 2.2.x works but I can't find PCMCIA support anywhere. 2.4.x is like feeding it iron filings.

TIA,

I used to have Caldera's eDesktop 2.4 (2.2.16 kernel) on my old Toshiba 500CDT P120/32MB and the install detected and configured pcmcia and the xircom card right away.

Now I never did compile the 2.2 series kernel so I don't know if pcmcia was included in the kernel or was a separate package.

I suspect it would be separate if you cannot find any pcmcia options in the kernel config.

Any hint of pcmcia in the kernel source directories. If there, then you may be able to compile it yourself. If not, then you will need to find the version that's compatible with the 2.2 kernel and get that one.

Sorry if I'm not much help.

Well I did a 'find /usr/src/linux/ -name pcmcia*' and I saw some files listed.
But during 'make menuconfig' I don't see the option anywhere (2.2.19).

The standard Slackware 2.2.19 kernel does have pcmcia support compiled-in (*not* the sources - they're stock Linux).
So I'm thinking that maybe I'm supposed to apply a PCMCIA patch to the 2.2.19 tree!?
