Hello,

I had to buy a "bracket" (wich is a remeovable HD, the thing they come up with these days.) for my schoolwork.

Now we had to install Linux mandrake, Wich version I forgot, but a fairly recent one.

My problem is that I want it to boot directly from the "bracket" on my home computer. wich is running on winXP pro. without the LiLo. at school it booted with out any problems, but at home I get a Kernel panic.

it just doesn't seem to find the HDB on wich it is installed. I tried to edit the LiLo, but that didn't work because HDB didn't exist.

the only way I got it to work at home was when I Physicly disconnected the Main HD. (C:\)
wich is a tad annoying. (Hear the sarcastic undertone)

I did look at the howto's and forums. they were helpfull, but not quite what I needed to fix the problem.

I would really apreciate some help.
My grades too.

no prob, yourte right, but it isn't a real hardware problem, and neither a software one.

so this seemed the best place.

No, you posted in a forum that is meant for internal forum glitches and problems.

I moved it to Hardware Related.

Peace,

Could you please post the contents of /etc/lilo.conf, /etc/fstab and also let us know what device the 'bracket' is.

hda - primary/master
hdb - primary/slave
hdc - secondary/master
hdd - secondary/slave

It would seem you need to edit both of the files mentioned above and change the references of hd?# to the correct device.
