Gkrellm. It has all the options you could ever want in a monitoring tool, it's included in most modern distributions, it's free, and (best of all) it's pretty darn cool looking too!
It's got ram, swap, mailcheck, cpu, drive space, time/date, uptime, and net load monitors by default, and has plugins to check sports scores, control XMMS, and a whole lot more.
