Hi, I would like to start this post by letting you know as much as I know or at least as much as I think is necassary. I am running mandrake 7.1 with 2.2.15-4mdk kernel. I am also using ReiserFS on two of my directories ( / and /home ). I am wanting to update my kernel for many reasons, but I am having a problem.
I get as setting up the filesystems and reiserfs isn't truely an option - it's grey!!! How do I get this option to become available? I thought it was a standard option in kernel 2.4.x?
I would be greatful for any insite into my situation...
Thanks, Jim

you have to patch your kernel source to add in support for reiserfs. There should be instructions at www.reiserfs.org (http://www.reiserfs.org) as well as the patch itself. check it out.

I am kinda new to the linux scene but when I checked out the 2.4.1 change log (http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ChangeLog-2.4.1) I think it says that ReiserFS is included ever since pre 8. And if not exactly which mod do I need to add to 2.4.1?
Thanks for your help thus far.

Quick question...
Would it be easier to do a fresh install with mandrake using ext2 then update the kernel to 2.4.1 and then finally upgrading to ReiserFS? Or the way I am currently doing it with ReiserFS already installed with 2.2.16 and trying to upgrade to 2.4.1?

when you do xconfig, select the first box on the top left(i can't remember which one, i think kernel maturity) and select use experimental options(or something like that). that will allow you to use experimental options, like reiserfs.
oh if you format to ext2, then to reiserfs, you will loose all the data, so it's best to keep the reiserfs you have now.
sorry if this sounds so vague, but i'm at work and don't have access to my linux box.
