Greetings, Hello, and Thank You!
I'm just glad I found this place.
I'm 35, and I feel like my life is just starting.

I purchased a copy of RH7.0 in the form of aCD bundle with the book Red Hat Linux For Dummies. The install went pretty well, then through newsletters and another board it was advised that I upgrade to RH7.3 to 'enhance my Linux experience'. Upon upgrading from 7.0 to 7.3 my system would no longer boot to X.
When the system first boots the text login screen flickers a few times before settliing down to take a command. When 'startx' is the input command the reply is :

Fatal Server Error
no screen found

XIO: Fatal Error 104
(connection reset by peer)
on X server ":0:0"
After 0 known requests
(0 known processed)
with 0 events remaining

It seems the install went fine, but when it asked me to input the vid and monitor information things went a tad off. The list default pick for 7.3 for my monitor was 'Unprobed Monitor' and while my Creative Labs 3D Blaster PCI vid card (4mgs) is a Verlite 1000 (listed in RH7.3) it defaults it out to Rendition Verlite 1000. These are both listed durring the RH7.3 install. My monitor, a CTX MS600, is also listed, but it seems there is a problem. Each time I try and correct the matter through Xconfigurator it does no good. It won't let me change the vid card or I can't do it. When I try every combination of monitor I can (using the custom configs and generic listings) it tells me there is a problem to quit or go fix it. I am at a loss here. I have no idea of what to do being as much of a newbie as there ever was. Just looking for someone to point the way if they can.

Login as root and run setup. Scroll down to Configure X or something like that and try to find your Monitor and video card.
If it can't find setup then run:
/sbin/setup
