I'm pretty computer-experienced, just not with Linux. I was looking a Debian, but it seems out of date. Sorm Linux 2000 based on Debian looks good. I want something to grow into, easy to use at first but with POWER and CONFIGURABILITY for when I learn more. I don't want to be restricted by a "newbie" version.
Any suggestions? The Storm 2000 gui interface for apt-get looks cool, easy but powerful. I've heard Corel is horrible, so I don't want to go there.

HA!
to all you newbies out there...this is type of post i was talking about in my RTFM post!
And since i am no longer using linux, just this once i actually want to say
Newbie, get an idea, and RTFM. For you that means RTFM
Storm is nothing but Debian with a few pretty pictures and an easier install. Underneath is all the power and flexability of Debian.

Debian, nothing else is worth turd.
Most are pretty good. Check out the NHF for reviews on many distros. Mandrake gives you a nice middle ground as the config tools are always there, but you can hand edit stuff if you so choose.
Some things like XF86Config or lilo.conf are just easier to hand edit. make xconfig for the kernel is alot easier though. So isn't kpackage to browse the rpm database.

Thanks alot. I'm thinking to go with Debian, as I can probably pick stuff up.
On a related note, let's say I want a new glibc or kernel. How hard is that to update without the Debian tools? Can I just get it, compile it, and it works?
