SInce no one I know ,or live with, cares one iota. I had to post this for posterity.

My laptop is finally wireless. I am posting this from the backyard on a beautiful day in N. Calif.

After repairing my laptop I decided to blow the Linux partition away and start over. It dual boots with WIndows98se.

Compaq Armada 1750
+++
PCMCIA cards:
Xircom Credit Card Ethernet 10/100-Ready CE3B-100BTX - eth0
Orinoco Gold Wireless card - eth1
Adaptec 1480A Ultra SCSI cardbus adapter
+++
ATI Rage LT Pro AGP 2X
ES1869 sound chip
USB

Debian 3.0.r0 - disk 5 &1

The install gave me options to install drivers for everything listed above.

I did have to manually configure eth1 to use dhcp. I chose to let the install configure eth0 during install, it also uses dhcp.

X came up once I got the pointer section of XF86Config-4 squared away.

All three pcmcia work perfectly and the usb ports talks to my camera.

I couldn't be happier. I was thinking of replacing the Laptop.

Compaq has a nice service available through their web site for ordering spare parts. I ordered on a Saturday night and the part showed up on my doorstep on Tuesday at 9:00am.

No shipping costs!

I may never boot this laptop into windows again.

:D

Life is good! :cool:

Could be.

I did a lot of research before I bought a wireless card. It had to work in Linux.

Orinoco produced their own Linux drivers. I figured that this gave me the best chance to succeed. The Orinoco drivers were included in the woody release of debian.

I'm sitting in my recliner watching the game as I write this reply. :cool:

for my network, i was given a wireless linksys 2.4ghz USB adaptor. i've been trying all day to get it enabled so it picks up on slack 8.1... but no luck. slack isn't even picking my usb cam up, so i'm guessing hotplug/usb isn't enabled, and being that i'm a newbie, i don't know how to enable them. anyone tell me how to use this? (i've also installed the linux-wlan proj. files btw)
