I installed a pre-release of mandrake 9, and then the full thing... and both were Really buggy...
I was running mandrake 8.1 and KDE 3 for a while perfectly. I have a dual amd MP system.
Ive switched to suse until a less buggy release is out.
has anyone else had problems?

None whatsoever. What were the problems? Did you head over to Mandrake discussion boards to tackle them?
PS - did you file bug reports on the pre-release version?

naa.. too many to mess with.
-the task bar at the bottom froze up about once a day
-about half the times that I ran a program KDE threw and error.
-evolution refused to run for lack of a database file like every 3rd time.
I will wait until 9.1 and up comes out and try again.

Was this an upgrade or a clean install? I have no lock up issues with MDK 9.0.

I actually tried upgrading from 8.1 to 9 first. Ive heard bad things about the upgrade, but I decided to try it anyway. It was absolutely awful... almost nothing worked right. Then I did a full clean install of the pre-release and then a clean install mandrake 9.
mine works great!
i did u full install the day it came out....

Ive been using MDK 9.0 from the beta4 to the Final release . Its an awesome distro . The only "bug" I had was Canon Smasher locking up whatever wm I tried to run it in . I just removed the game . You must have some hardware issues . MDK 9.0 is the best release of Mandrake yet .

i love it. it found everything. my system is an Athlon 1300, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, 40GB HD, 2 NICs, SB Value. it found everything immediately. i'm a member of the mandrake club so urpmi got me nvidia drivers for the GEFORCE2 DDR 64MB card. it was all working within 2 hours. this was a fresh install and after having hell setting up sound in 8.2 (i know it's a standard sound card, but i tried every help file out there). i have used various flavors of linux over the last few years before commiting myself to make it my main OS 6 months ago and this has cemented that decision.

I have a dual athlon mp1900 with a geforce4mx440 and mandrake 9 WILL NOT work on it at all. I have tried everything. the NVIDIA_kernel will not compile no matter what I do, so I've all but given up on it, I'm new to linux, but for some reason, it seems ridiculous that installing a driver should be this hard, if it just would compile, I'd be happy, not much work then really, but whatever is wrong with it, it seems that not even the most linux educated mind on here can help me. I hate to complain like this, but I'm really disappointed, years ago I installed a release from redhat, on a computer that was top of the line, and it had no problem at all. I just couldn't find any software besides little useless apps, so I went back to winblows. I've looked all over the internet, and can't find anything to explain what is going wrong here, all the advice dead ends at the point that I'm at. well, sorry to fill up a whole page with whining, just had to give my $.02

fourthreich -- what error message are you getting?
Most of the time, problems compiling NVIDIA_kernel can be traced back to not installing kernel-source. If installing kernel-source doesn't fix the problem, then sometimes make -C /usr/src/linux mrproper oldconfig dep will help. But post the errors it's giving you, if neither of these help.
