Running Red Hat 7.1 with a full install, I am able to RPM's off of the install disks. But recently downloaded some updates (including the kernal) and would like to update this software. Using Gnome, the 'normal' ways are not working. I've tried the right click 'install/upgrade', the CD spins up but nothing is loaded. Using the Gnome RPM installer does not work either. The files will loadup in the installer as new/upgrades but clicking the 'Add' button does nothing.

Is this because I don't have the files in the 'root' of the CD or will I have to move them to the HD to get them to install that way.

OR am I trying to do this completely wrong?

Have you tried running RPM from the console and instaling them console based. I find that GNOME based RPM installations dont run so smooth so do from the console. You also get more features that way.

That's what I guessed someone would say :)

Guess being the n00b, I'll have to expect to get kick around some :)

I think the man pages has the details on running and RPM from the command line...thanks! :)
